Doctor Who star to have gay marriage
Doctor Who star John Barrowman is to marry his boyfriend in a civil ceremony in the New Year.
Mr Barrowman who plays bisexual character Captain Jack is to take part in a Civil Partnership ceremony with his boyfriend of ten years, the architect Scott Gill.
Mr Barrowman told the Sun that he and his partner are aiming for a low-key affair: “We’re just going to sign the civil register. We’re not going to have any ceremony because I’m not a supporter of the word marriage for a gay partnership.”
The gay star also revealed that they are hoping to have a child through a surrogate mother: “the daughter of a very, very old friend offered to carry a child for us. I’ve known her since she was five or six. She has children of her own but said if we wanted a child she would happily carry it for us.”
In October it was announced that Mr Barrowman is to star in an adult spin off of the Doctor Who series. The new series will be called Torchwood (an anagram of Doctor Who) and will centre on a team that are investigating aliens at large in Britain.
Torchwood will be shown in the summer of 2006 on BBC3.
