Jude Law in biopic of gay Beatles’ manager
Actor Jude Law is reported to be lined up to play gay Beatles manager Brian Epstein, in a film about the music mogul’s life.
The Liverpool Echo revealed two years ago, Mr Law, star of Alfie – wanted to play the part of the Beatles man and said he had been told he looked like the famous manager.
The movie, described as a “quirky, hallucinogenic biopic”, is expected to be premiered in Liverpool during Capital of Culture year 2008, according to the paper.
Broadway producer Vivek Tiwary has written a script which depicts Mr Epstein’s life through historical scenes, dream sequences and hallucinations. He told the Liverpool Echo he has the blessing of Mr Epstein’s family and has been working closely with the manager’s business partner Nat Weiss and assistant Joanne Peterson.
Mr Tiwary said he believes Epstein’s death of a drug overdose was accidental, not suicide.
Despite Epstein’s fame as the manager of the biggest band of all time, the Beatles’ music will not be an element of the movie.
Mr Epstein became manager of the record department at North End Music Stores (NEMS).
He first saw the Beatles in a lunch-time session at the Cavern and became their manager in January 1962.
He also ran other acts including Cilia Black, Billy J Kramer and Gerry and the Pacemakers.
Mr Epstein was found dead at his London home in August 1967, aged 32, from an apparent overdose of the drug carbitol.
