“Neighbours from hell” evicted after homophobic and anti-disabled abuse
A family described by the police as as a “neighbours from hell” have been evicted from their Cheltenham home after they taunted abuse at gay people and attacked a disabled man.
The single mother and her three daughters shouted abuse at visitors to the gay EXS nightclub on Cheltenham High Street from their home nearby.
They also targeted Jonty Rickeets, a wheel-chair bound 23 year old. For over three years the family terrorised him in public, swore at him in the street and pelted him with eggs, coins and bottles.
PC Mike Bailey, of Gloucestershire police’s hate crimes unit, said the number of reported incidents of homophobic abuse had risen after the local police force launched a campaign to encourage gay people to come forward.
The officer described the family who cannot be named for legal reasons as: “neighbours from hell.”
A spokesman for the family’s landlords Idris Davies confirmed to the Gloucestershire Echo that they were evicted after six months as tenants..
