Brokeback Mountain rides away with four BAFTAs
The gay cowboy romance, Brokeback Mountain emerged as the victor at the BAFTAs, held in London this evening. The film scored best film whilst Ang Lee, received the best director award.
Jake Gyllenhaal, won the best supporting actor award for his portrayal of Jack Twist. Speaking after the ceremony, he said: “It’s just a pleasure to be a part of this movie and I can’t even believe I’ve got this for it.”
In total, Brokeback Mountain received four awards including best adapted screenplay but Heath Ledger missed out on the best actor gong. It has been widely tipped as the main victor for the upcoming Oscar awards.
Philip Seymour Hoffman, received the award for best actor for his portrayal of the gay writer, Truman Capote in the film of his life, Capote.
