Asbo for gay hairdresser who played music too loud
A hairdresser has been handed an Asbo after neighbours complained he was playing music such as country hit Stand By Your Man too loudly.
William Hillan from Larkhall, Lanarkshire annoyed neighbours by playing high volume music from his sound system at all hours. They complained the songs were so loud they couldn’t hear their TVs and also said he held noisy parties in his back garden.
Hamilton Sheriff Court was told that Mr Hillan, who runs a salon in the town regularly played country singer Tammy Wynette’s classic hit. Mr Hillan was also accused of turning up songs by Alison Moyet Charlotte Church.
A temporary anti-social behaviour order had been imposed in December, the current hearing will decide wether to make it permanent.
Mr Hillan said he was the victim of jealous and homophobic neighbours, “I am being victimised by my neighbours and I can prove that I wasn’t even there when some of these things are supposed to have happened.”
“I have lived here for 10 years and there weren’t any problems until certain neighbours moved in a couple of years ago.”
“I am going to fight this all the way and I am going to win.”
It was also revealed that one neighbour was fined £50 after admitting he called the businessman a “poof”. Police were also called after further taunts but Mr Hillan said he decided not to press charges again to “try to keep the peace”.
Sheriff Ruth Anderson will hear further evidence later this month.
