Gay band cop faces prison
The original lead singer of gay icon’s The Village People, is facing five years in prison over cocaine and gun charges in the US.
Victor Willis, appeared on stage as the cop between 1977 and 1980 along with a sailor, a cowboy, an Indian, a leather enthusiast and a construction worker, but now he has found himself on the wrong side of the law after being arrested in San Francisco when cocaine was found in his car.
Assistant district attorney Morley Pitt said: “It’s sad his life has spiralled down to the point where in all likelihood he’s going to prison.”
Police had previously caught him with drugs and a loaded pistol in his car last year.
He helped write hits such as YMCA and In The Navy.
Willis, who is married, was reportedly asked to leave the band when the other members were identified as gay.
