Gay “proposition” sparks Jamaican riot
Jamaican students rioted against a gay pupil who had been accused of propositioning a classmate, according to reports.
Police attempted to protect and escort the gay man off the University of West Indies campus after he was chased by an angry mob.
The Daily Gleaner claims there were fears the student would be killed as protesters outnumbered security guards until the police were called.
The crowd threw objects at officers and tried to hurt the gay man. They retaliated when a policeman fired a gunshot in the air.
The unnamed gay man was rescued and taken to a police station where the claims against him are being investigated.
He could face charges if found guilty.
Four men were charged last month for the murder of Lenford “Steve” Harvey a gay AIDs activist, who was killed on the eve of Worlds Aids Day.
