Senator refuses to budget gay bigotry
A Kentucky State senator has refused to supporting budgeting a university which expelled a student for being gay.
Senator Ernesto Scorsone opposed an item proposing support for a pharmacy on the University of Cumberlands campus, where a student was forced to leave after revealing his sexuality on a website.
Mr Scorsone, the only openly gay member of the General Assembly, said: “”We should not be budgeting bigotry, if the University of Cumberlands does not change its policies and practices, we will have a state benefit that is only available to heterosexuals.”
The $18.1 billion budget was passed unanimously.
Jason Johnson, a gay theatre student, was expelled from the Baptist university after revealing his sexuality on an internet blog.
