Gays face Christian school expulsion
US gay and lesbian students face expulsion from Christian schools if they reveal their sexuality, a gay group has warned.
Soulforce, a gay organisation, currently touring America promoting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights, claims over 200 colleges and universities actively ban homosexual students.
Group spokesman, Richard Lindsay, said: “It’s their right legally, but what we’re saying is it is not their right morally.”
The group spoke out after five members of Soulforce, a gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender group, were arrested at the Brigham Young University and accused of trespassing, while on their equality tour.
A gay student was expelled fro the Baptist University of Cumberlands after revealing his sexuality on an internet blog, similar action has also been taken against students at John Brown University, in Spring Ark, Lee University in Cleveland and North Central University in Minneapolis.
But not all schools appear to have the same policy, Baptist-affiliated Georgetown College vice president Jim Allison told the Herald-Leader, his university stresses “respect for all.”
“For us, one’s sexuality would not be a determining factor in whether or not he or she is a student,” he said.
