Gay scandal MP to explain actions
Liberal Democrat MP Mark Oaten’s marriage has been resurrected this Easter.
The former Home Affairs spokesman, who resigned amid allegations of a gay affair with a “rent boy,” announced this weekend that he is back with his wife Belinda, who ‘understands’ what led to his betrayal.
His wife is also set to explain why she took him back, followed by an article by Mr Oaten explaining the pressures which led to the scandal.
It is hoped the articles will reignite the politician’s parliamentary career.
He told the Mail on Sunday, the article will be “a serious piece about what it is to turn 40, mid-life crisis, pressure of work and all the stuff which goes on.
The Winchester MP added, “One of the reasons why we are where we are is because Belinda understands the circumstances that led to it”
He said it was “just too soon” for them to be interviewed together.
Mr Oaten resigned from his Lib Dem Home Affairs post and the leadership race in January after newspaper allegations of a gay relationship with a male prostitute.
He reacted to claims in the News of the World, which said the married father of two had been involved in a relationship with a “rent boy,” in 2004.
