Will Young to come out as a thesbian
The gay Pop Idol winner, Will Young is to make his professional stage début as an effeminate 1920s drug addict in the Noel Coward play, the Vortex.
Young, who came out as gay shortly after winning the first series of Pop Idol was enroled on a musical theatre course when he won the television talent contest.
Last year, he made his cinematic début playing the gay singer Bertie in the British film ‘Mrs Henderson Presents’ where he starred alongside Dame Judi Dench.
“The play is quite dark and explores the ‘youth vortex of beastliness’, centring on the relationship of Will’s character, Nicky, and that of his vain and vacuous mother, Florence.
“Will did a stunning audition and I am really excited about what he will bring to the character and the production, ” associate director Jo Combes told the Daily Express.
“I enjoy the industry more, ” the star has said in the past. “I think I’m better suited to it. I’d miss the singing but there are areas where it wears me down.”
