Brighton Pride heats up
Brighton is preparing for a right old Carry On this weekend as the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community head south for Gay Pride.
The parade leaves Madeira Drive at 11am on Saturday and twists through the streets of Brighton, making its way to Preston Park.
Expect camp emulations of the Carry On stars including a few Kenneth Williams look-a-likes.
A funfair will be held in Preston park along with a market selling everything from a Civil Partnership wedding ring to a (ever so slightly small for you) rainbow coloured vest.
Don’t forget – there are also a whole host of voluntary sector stalls where you can find out about local services and organisations in Brighton.
The Women’s Tent will offer a mix of performers from rock and pop to bluesy melodies – and can-can girls.
The tent is always one of the most popular venues in the park, and is run by Brighton Women’s Centre. Comperes for the day are Rose Collis, Clitty Rubquick and Dolly Rocket.
Lola Lasagne returns once again to present the crème de la crème of entertainment from all over the UK’s gay scene at the Revenge Cabaret Big Top. Expect laughter-inducing performances from Dave Lynn, Maisie Trollette, the Drag With No Name, Betty Swollocks and Trashville Tennessee. All in the best possible taste, of course.
The Queen’s Arms will be hosting a Singstar Tent where winners from July’s heat can show off their vocal talents (or lack of them) and battle it out to sing on the main stage later in the day.
There is free water for thirsty park-goers, but if you fancy something a little stronger, head to the array of bars dotted around the park such as Candy Bar, Wild Fruit, Revenge and Hilton Pride Members Bar (if you become a member.)
