Christian cleared over gay pride protest
The head of an anti-gay Christian lobby group has been cleared of public order charges after handing out anti-gay leaflets, but now plans to take civil action against the police for infringing on his freedom of speech.
Stephen Green, director of Christian Voice, appeared before magistrates earlier this month after being arrested for handing out leaflets at Cardiff Mardi Gras which included quotes saying homosexuality is wrong.
He denied charges that he had used threatening words and behaviour whilst handing out the pamphlets entitled “Same-sex love – same-sex sex: What does the Bible say?”
The Crown Prosecution Service announced that it had insufficient evidence to pursue the charges today.
Mr Green’s group regularly appear at gay events often with placards quoting anti-gay biblical quotes, he said in a statement “I thank God for the honour of being locked up for sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”
This comes in the same week that the Gay Police Association were cleared over an advert which linked religious statements to homophobic attacks.
