Scarlett Johansson ‘role model’ for sexual health
HIV charity Terrence Higgins Trust (THT) has praised Hollywood star Scarlett Johansson for addressing the importance of sexual health.
The group welcomed her comments which she made in an interview with Allure magazine.
Speaking about her relationships she insists she is not promiscuous but said that getting tested for STD’s is part of being a “socially aware.”
The actress, who is currently dating Josh Hartnett said it is irresponsible not to be tested, “I get tested for HIV twice a year… One has to be socially aware.”
Genevieve Clark, THT’s director of communications called Johansson a great role model for sexual health, she said: “Sexual health is still one of those taboo subjects, but with infections on the rise it’s time we started talking about it.
“Prevention is better than cure, especially as some STIs – like HIV – can’t be cured. Condoms are still the best way to avoid STIs and unintended pregnancies in the first place.
She said if people are worried they should follow Scarlett’s example and get tested.
Johannson said it is something every “decent human” should be doing, “It’s part of being a decent human, to be tested for STDs. It’s just disgusting behaviour when people don’t. It’s so irresponsible.”
