Retro Bar first to help tackle homophobic bullying
The Retro Bar has become the first to join Stonewall’s new Bar and Club Partnership scheme to raise money to tackle homophobic bullying in schools.
The central London venue has committed itself to raise a minimum of £1,500 throughout the year for Stonewall campaigns including Education for All, which tackles homophobia and homophobic bullying in schools.
Wendy Leston, manager of the Retro Bar, said: “We are delighted to support Stonewall’s Bar and Club Partnership scheme, especially when it comes to an issue as important as this. This is a continuation of the support we have given Stonewall over the years and we’re thrilled to be the first to join this new initiative.”
Venues wanting to support Stonewall by joining the Bar and Club Partnership scheme will also be expected to raise a minimum of £1,500 throughout the year.
In return Stonewall will help promote and publicise their fundraising events as well as offer support on the night.
The charity was recently awarded a government tender to produce educational materials on combating homophobic bullying for schools across the UK.
Ben Summerskill, Chief Executive of Stonewall, said: “The Retro Bar is a long- time supporter of Stonewall and we’re extremely grateful it has signed up to the Stonewall Bar and Club Partnership scheme.
“Money raised through this scheme will be essential to the work we do and hope that many other bars and clubs will want to take part and pledge their support.”
The Retro Bar will donate all the door proceeds from both their Christmas Party (Wednesday 20th December) and New Year’s Eve Party. Tickets for both events must be purchased in advance from the Retro Bar, 2 George Court (off the Strand), London WC2N 6HH.
