GaydarRadio wins a Sony award
Digital radio station GaydarRadio was named Digital Terrestrial Station of the Year last night at the Sony Awards.
The gay station beat off stiff competition from other finalists BBC Radio Asia and Fun Radio to take the accolade at a ceremony at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel.
The judges said GaydarRadio was a station: “that captures the heart if its community and gives a vibrant voice.”
Actress Amanda Holden presented the award.
Programme controller Robin Crowley said: “Winning this award is a great honour and recognises what can be achieved in commercial radio broadcasting today.
“If there’s one radio station that reflects what commercial digital radio should be about then it’s us.
“We deliver more live programming than any other UK digital radio station, we promote new radio talent and we offer a unique, interactive service to a significant community which is not matched by the BBC or any other commercial entity.”
GaydarRadio recently celebrated its fifth birthday.
