Angels will raise funds for AIDS charity
A star-studded charity gala performance of Angels in America will take place at the Lyric Hammersmith on Wednesday 4th July to raise vital funds to help people living with HIV.
Headlong Theatre’s production of Angels in America by Pulitzer-winning author Tony Kushner is the first major UK revival in fifteen years and is currently on a nationwide tour, where it has received outstanding reviews.
Directed by Daniel Kramer, the play follows the lives of individuals affected by HIV and AIDS in 1980s New York and candidly addresses issues of identity and denial, homophobia and HIV-related stigma and discrimination.
It is the first national revival of Tony Kushner’s two-part masterpiece since its premiere at the National Theatre in 1992.
The National AIDS Trust, Headlong Theatre and the Lyric Hammersmith are working in partnership to increase awareness of the issues that this thought-provoking play addresses, which are still pertinent fifteen years after it was first performed.
The charity gala performance of Angels in America at the Lyric Hammersmith on the 4th of July will raise funds for the National AIDS Trust.
Guests will be greeted by ‘Angels’ followed by a champagne and canapé reception, before watching a production that The Times calls a “genuinely thrilling theatrical experience” and The Scotsman praised as: “a masterclass in acting and stagecraft.”
An exclusive post-show party and auction will follow, hosted by a leading figure from the world of entertainment.
Guests will have the chance to meet the director and members of the cast.
The National AIDS Trust, Headlong Theatre and the Lyric Hammersmith have also produced an education pack for schools exploring some of the questions raised by this challenging production.
The aim of this new resource is to engage young people on subjects including HIV and homophobia through the medium of drama, and to encourage debate and discussion on the issues raised by Angels in America.
The education pack is available free of charge to all secondary schools and can be downloaded from 25th May by clicking here
