Paris Hilton free from prison for “medical” reasons
Heiress, socialite and so called “gay icon” Paris Hilton has been released from prison on Thursday for a medical reason after serving just three days of her 23 day sentence. But she will be under house arrest for forty days.
Steve Whitmore of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s office said Paris Hilton had been “reassigned” but said he could not disclose the medical condition that prompted the change for patient privacy reasons: “With extensive consultation with medical personnel it was decided this reassignment should be done.
“My understanding is that she’s confined to her home with an ankle bracelet, she cannot leave that facility. She will fulfil the remainder of her time confined to her home.”
Although she barely spent three days behind bars in terms of hours, she will be credited with five days in prison.
Comment: It would be interesting to know whether Paris Hilton paid for her medical assessment.
Would other, poorer inmates be offered the same assessments and the opportunity to switch to house arrests?
Or are prisons just like the rest of the USA, the richer you are the more options you have? But that of course doesn’t mean it was the case with Paris
Before she entered prison, Paris Hilton said: “This is an important point in my life and I need to take responsibility for my actions. In the future, I plan on taking more of an active role in the decisions I make.
“Although I am scared, I am ready to begin my jail sentence.”
The star of The Simple Life Star was confined to her cell for 23 hours a day but got an hour to shower (presumably with fellow inmates) and to make telephone calls.
The New York waxwork museum, Madame Tussaud’s is mocking Hilton. They’ve dressed her up in a black and white striped prison suit.
The London branch of the museum chain does not currently have a waxwork of the star.
