New website promotes Somerset as a gay destination
One of England’s more rural counties is being touted as a holiday destination for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people.
A new online resource, gaysomerset.com, has been launched to promote gay bars, clubs, accommodation, saunas and social groups in Somerset.
The website also has information on help and support services in the area, a vital life line for gay people living in small communities.
“Being ‘the only gay in the village’ is a real life situation for some in Somerset,” editor Tom Faull told PinkNews.co.uk
“Knowing that there are others out there like you and that there are places to go and people to talk to is a massive relief and can really help.”
Mr Faull said Somerset has a diverse gay and lesbian population but the website was founded in reaction to a lack of up to date and easy to access information covering gay life in Somerset.
“The county may not have the biggest gay scene compared to neighbouring counties but you’d be surprised what is on offer,” he said.
gaysomerset.com is to undertake a national campaign to promote Somerset as a holiday destination for the LGBT population in the UK.
“Somerset has a lot to offer the gay tourist, amazing countryside, great shopping and a good selection of venues to end a busy day.”
