Obama adviser quits after calling Hillary a monster
Unpaid foreign policy adviser Samantha Power has walked away from Barack Obama’s Presidential campaign after describing New York Senator Hillary Clinton as a “monster” to a Scottish publication.
Clinton’s camp pushed for Obama to drop Power from his team, but the Harvard professor and author resigned after apologising for her inappropriate comment.
“It is wrong for anyone to pursue this campaign in such negative and personal terms,” she said.
“I apologise to Senator Clinton and to Senator Obama, who has made very clear that these kinds of expressions should have no place in American politics.”
But the apology was too little, too late.
While Obama clarified that such comments had no place in his campaign, Clinton’s camp pushed for her immediate dismissal.
The comment, made to The Scotsman, came as relationships between the two camps became increasingly tense.
While Obama’s camp blames Tuesday’s big losses in Ohio and Texas on negative campaigning on Clinton’s side, Power told the publication:
“We fucked up in Ohio.
“In Ohio, they are obsessed and Hillary is going to town on it, because she knows Ohio’s the only place they can win.
“She is a monster, too – that is off the record – she is stooping to anything.”
Power was in the UK promoting her book.
