Gay London advert wins travel award
The official visitor organisation for London is celebrating today after it won twice at the International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association Awards ceremony in Las Vegas.
The awards were voted for by the membership of IGLTA, which represents the global lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender travel and marketing community.
Visit London won the awards for Best Brochure/Collateral and Best Advertisement.
Martine Ainsworth-Wells, Marketing Director at Visit London, said:
“I’m delighted that Visit London’s hard work promoting London to the LGBT travel market has been recognised with these awards.
”London is a fantastic destination for gay and lesbian travellers and our award-winning guides and campaigns help them to get the most out of the capital.”
Gay tourism is now worth more than three billion pounds a year to the economy, with London positioned to rival New York, Sydney and Amsterdam as a hot spot for gay visitors.
The winning brochure is Visit London’s Official Gay and Lesbian Guide to the Capital, which has been widely distributed across gay venues and pride events both in the UK and overseas, including the USA and Germany, and online. Click here to download it.
The print advertisement is for the ‘Do London Like a Local’ campaign which encouraged visitors to see parts of the capital popular with Londoners and less well known to tourists.
London is home to the largest gay and lesbian population in Europe, with Soho seen as the symbolic heart of the community, with a large selection of bars, clubs, shops and restaurants.
