There are gays in Formula One claims Mosley
The Formula One boss who won record damages from a tabloid newspaper after it printed a lurid story about his private life has compared his treatment to that of gay people.
Max Mosley is the son of British fascist leader Sir Oswald Mosley.
Earlier this month the News of the World was ordered to pay him £60,000 and legal fees of £850,000 for breach of privacy.
The paper had published pictures of what it claimed was Mr Mosley taking part in a sado-masochistic “Nazi orgy” and argued in court that the story was in the public interest.
In an interview with Italian newspaper Gazzetta, Mr Mosley, 68, who admitted in court that he likes spanking, said:
“At one time homosexuals and transvestites were criticised and in England homosexuality was a crime.
“There were even homosexuals in Formula One.
“But everyone does what they want in their private life because it doesn’t hurt anyone.
“Those that criticise are those that think sex is just the classic missionary position.”
Mr Mosley said that the whole incident was “very embarrassing for my family. Apart from the Nazi element it was all true.”
He said he did not think that the sport of motor racing had been damaged by the affair.
He has kept his job as president of the Federation Internationale de L’Automobile, the governing body of Formula One and other motorsports.
