Stonewall announces recruitment process for expert trustees
People with experience of a range of areas from PR to finance are being encouraged to become involved with Stonewall as trustees.
The gay equality organisation is holding an open recruitment process to find up to three more trustees to support its work.
Interviews will be held in December for appointment early in 2009.
Candidate trustees should be able to demonstrate knowledge, skill or experience – ideally at senior level – in at least one area: communications, branding and PR; finance; fundraising; asylum initiatives; awareness of lesbian, gay and bisexual issues in Scotland; change and process management; working with lesbian, gay and bisexual people with plural identities, including as members of black and ethnic minority (BME) communities.
Chief executive Ben Summerskill said the trustees reflect the diversity of the lesbian, gay and bisexual community but as people from black and minority ethnic communities are currently under-represented on the board, applications are especially welcome from such candidates.
“Just over half of the current trustees are women, 20% are disabled and 10% are BME,” he told PinkNews.co.uk.
“We are constantly keen to enhance the variety of both trustees and staff and open rercuitment is one way of helping to do this.”
Stonewall chair David Isaac said that “talented people of all sorts” help the charity to carry out its work.
It employs 52 staff, supported by almost 100 regular volunteers, in London, Edinburgh, Bangor and Cardiff.
Turnover in the financial year to 30 September 2008 was £3m, up from £1.4m five years ago.
“We started open external recruitment in 2005, which is best practice in the charity sector,” Mr Isaac said.
“Since then we’ve found a number of highly capable trustees from many backgrounds. We hope to recruit new trustees of a similar calibre this time.”
