Lesbian and gay singing event scheduled for London’s South Bank in May
Various Voices, a lesbian and gay choir and singing event, will be held in London at the South Bank Centre in May.
Hosted by the London Gay Men’s Chorus, The Pink Singers and Diversity, the four-day festival will feature 60 choirs, 2,000 singers and 50 concerts.
Comperes and performers include Lea Delaria, Timberlina, Our Lady J, Lorraine Bowen, Amy Lame and Jonathan Hellyer.
Lesbian comedian Sandi Tosvig will host the opening ceremony, while Timberlina and Lorraine Bowen will be leading a glamorous sing-a-long.
New York cabaret star Our Lady J will be making a rare London appearance singing the songs of Nine Inch Nails, Alanis Morissette and Dolly Parton among others.
Festival director Martin Brophy said: “London has never seen a gay and lesbian arts event on quite this scale, and for it to be taking place at Southbank Centre is fantastic, putting it at
the heart of the city’s arts and music scene.
“Many of the choirs taking part have never performed outside their homeland before, giving London audiences an amazing opportunity to hear choirs and music that promise to be unlike any they have heard before.”
Run by volunteers working in conjunction with Southbank Centre, Various Voices takes place in a European city every four years. This is the 12th festival, and the first in London since 1989.
