Man jailed for stabbing lesbian wife
A man has been jailed for nine years after an “enraged” and “frenzied” attack on his ex-wife, after she told him she thought she was a lesbian.
Adel Hdili, 31, originally from Tunisia, left Gail Hdili blind in one eye and scarred after attacking her repeatedly with a knife at a bus stop in Highbury Road, Bulwell, on January 10th.
Mrs Hdili, 40, had recently left her husband after she confessed that she thought she was a lesbian.
The couple met in 2002 while she was on holiday in Tunisia. They moved in together but later split up.
She had fled to Nottingham from their family home in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, to stay with a woman she had befriended online.
She had complained to police that she didn’t feel safe, saying Hdili had begun harassing her and had even smashed up her computer.
The attack took place at a bus stop outside the woman’s home after Hdili traced his estranged wife there using the address she had listed on her eBay account.
The court heard how he had waited for her outside the house and followed her to the bus stop before attacking her, even though their five-year-old son was present.
Dawn Pritchard, prosecuting, told the court that the boy had been shouting at his father to stop the attack. Hdili was eventually restrained by witnesses.
Mrs Hdili suffered stab and slash wounds to her face and lacerations to her stomach and her legs and has been left blind in her left eye.
Hdili pleaded guilty to wounding with intent after originally being charged with attempted murder. His lesser plea was accepted by the court.
Judge Michael Stokes QC told Mr Hdili that his frenzied attack had been one of rage and that it had permanently scarred his wife.
He has been sentenced to serve nine years before being deported.
