Family Guy creator: ‘Stewie is gay’
The creator of cartoon Family Guy has outed Stewie, the youngest member of the Griffin family.
In news that is unlikely to surprise frequent viewers, Seth MacFarlane said the baby would ultimately be “gay or a very unhappy repressed heterosexual”.
In the interview with Playboy magazine, MacFarlane said an episode in which Stewie comes out had been written but it was decided to keep his sexuality vague.
He said: “But we decided it’s better to keep it vague, which makes more sense because he’s a one-year-old. Ultimately, Stewie will be gay or a very unhappy repressed heterosexual. It also explains why he’s so hellbent on killing [his mother, Lois] and taking over the world: He has a lot of aggression, which comes from confusion and uncertainty about his orientation.”
On the unscreened episode, MacFarlane said: “It had to do with the harassment he took from other kids at school. He ends up going back in time to prevent a passage in Leviticus from being written: ‘Thou shalt not lie with mankind as with womankind. It is an abomination.'”
In March, the show came under fire from a parents’ group over an episode that showed a gay orgy.
In the episode, screened in the US on March 8th, storylines included a gay orgy featuring 11 men, Stewie eating horse semen and bestiality.
The Parents Television Council, which has 1.3 million members, filed an indecency complaint with the Federal Communications Commission.
MacFarlane, who has received complaints from the group before, told The Advocate it was “like getting hate mail from Hitler”.
