Welsh man who raped trans woman jailed for eight years
A Welsh man found guilty of raping a trans woman has been jailed for eight years.
Kiron Singh Chand, of Llanelli, forced his victim to perform oral sex on him and beat her on April 13th in Llanelli town centre.
He denied rape but admitted causing actual bodily harm. A jury at Swansea crown court found the 20-year-old guilty of rape last month.
The prosecution described the complainant as “vulnerable”, saying she was to undergo gender reassignment surgery shortly. She has changed her name and was referred to as a woman throughout the trial.
Chand told the court she had offered him oral sex and he beat her when he felt “tricked” into the act. However, the jury did not believe his story.
Judge John Diehl QC sentenced him to eight years in prison and said that he raped her to “punish and humiliate her” when he realised her trans status.
According to the South Wales Evening Post, he said: “You did that because of that person’s transsexuality and you did it to punish and humiliate her.
“I don’t suppose you’ll accept this, but transsexuality is not the complainant’s fault. This person was particularly vulnerable and you demonstrated no remorse.”
Chand must also sign the sex offenders register. The 167 days he has already spent in custody will count towards his sentence.
