Police name second suspect in New York homophobic attack
Police investigating the homophobic beating of a New York man have named the second suspect they are looking for.
Daniel Rodriguez, 21, is being sought over the attack on Jack Price, 49.
Another man, Daniel Aleman, 26, was arrested on Sunday and charged with assault and aggravated assault as a hate crime.
Police believe the attack on Price was a homophobic hate crime as two men shouted anti-gay slurs as they beat him.
The assault happened on Friday at around 3am as Price left a corner deli in the Queens neighbourhood of College Point.
He suffered broken ribs, a fractured jaw and a lacerated spleen. His condition is described as serious but stable.
City council speaker Christine Quinn, who is openly gay, has denounced the attack.
At a press conference, she said: “You grow tired of doing these press conferences…these two hateful, ignorant individuals represent a minority of New Yorkers. I want to send a clear message to that second individual who is still on the loose. Turn yourself in because the full force of the NYPD will be brought to bear to apprehend you.”
