Gay Scottish football club celebrates Stonewall award nomination
HotScots FC has been nominated for Sports Award of the Year at the annual Stonewall awards.
The team, which is LGBT-friendly, will rub shoulders with fellow nominees including Paul O’Grady, Boyzone and Beth Ditto on November 5th at London’s V&A Museum.
This year, HotScots celebrated finishing sixth in their first full league season and winning the Gay Football Supporters Network cup in May. l GFSN Cup at the first time of asking.
The two-year-old club has also launched a new website, attended university fresher fairs raised money for charity with Radio Forth in Edinburgh.
Kevin Rowe, the chairman of HotScots said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be getting this kind of recognition. When I set the club up I wanted to have an organisation that took its development seriously, both off and on the field.
“While we have exceeded our own expectations on the field, I’m even more pleased with the numbers of people in Scotland showing interest and taking part in the team and its events. Over the last two years, more than 100 different people have participated in training, games or open events, and long may this development continue”
He added: “While it would be marvellous to win the award, we’ve got some very strong competition. The club is just thrilled to be nominated.”
The other nominees in the Sports category are Hope Powell, the England women’s football coach, the Kings Cross Steelers RFC, Allison Fisher, four times world pool champion and motorcyclist Michael Hill.
