X-Factor contestant Danyl Johnson sent home
Danyl Johnson was voted off the X-Factor last night.
The 27-year-old bisexual singer lost out on a place in the final, leaving the three would-be winners Olly Murs, Joe McElderry and Stacey Solomon.
All four contestants sang Michael Jackson songs and one other of their choosing on Sunday’s show.
While the judges praised Johnson’s rendition of I Have Nothing by Whitney Houston, they were left cold by his cover of Jackson’s Man in the Mirror, which was accompanied by a video of rainforests and polar bears.
He had won acclaim for his strong singing voice but some viewers criticised him for being arrogant.
Speaking on This Morning, he said of his rivals: “They have worked so hard and everyone of them was convinced that they would be going home this week, especially Stacey [Solomon].
“I was really gutted for myself but at the same time they worked so hard and they deserved their success.”
He added: “It’s going to be an amazing final.”
Last month, Dannii Minogue was cleared of making a ‘homophobic’ jibe about Johnson’s sexuality by Ofcom.
Nearly 4,000 people complained when she suggested that he did not need to sing about a woman because of newspaper reports that he was bisexual.
Minogue made the remarks on Saturday October 10th when he changed the gender references in Jennifer Hudson’s song I’m Telling You.
