Lady Gaga to perform Brits tribute for Alexander McQueen
Gay-friendly singer Lady Gaga has reportedly planned a new, sombre performance for tonight’s Brit Awards as a tribute to Alexander McQueen.
The star, a fan of McQueen’s designs, felt she could not perform one of her usual sets so soon after his death.
McQueen, who was known as Lee to friends and family, was found hanging in his London home last Thursday. It is believed he killed himself while grieving over his mother’s recent death.
According to the Sun, Gaga hopes to sing alone to acoustic versions of Telephone and Dance In The Dark and is trying to persuade organisers to project images of the designer while she sings.
“Gaga’s final choreography was finished ages ago,” a source told the paper.
“The whole performance was ready to go. But when she turned up for final rehearsals on Monday she announced she is too upset about Alexander McQueen to do that performance.”
“She says she’s changing everything. She wants to wear an all-black outfit and do sombre versions of her music as a tribute to him.”
Although a stream of celebrity fans paid tribute to McQueen’s talent, his former husband has criticised the fashion world as “shallow”.
George Forsyth, who wed the designer in 2000, told the Mail on Sunday: ‘It’s been fashion, fashion, fashion…but what about him as a person? That’s the real loss and the real waste. It’s not that he made women look great, it’s that he was a beautiful bloke, a really beautiful person with a big heart.
“The truth is, the fashion world is the loneliest place on the face of the planet. It’s a shallow world full of party people and party ‘friends’. Lee knew that.”
