Eminem supports gay marriage
Eminem has said he supports gay couples’ right to marry.
The rapper, who has been accused of writing homophobic songs, said he believed gay people should have a chance to be as “miserable” in wedlock as heterosexuals.
He told the New York Times, “I think if two people love each other, then what the hell? I think that everyone should have the chance to be equally miserable, if they want.
“It’s the new tolerant me! My overall look on things is a lot more mature than it used to be.”
When asked about his violent alter-ego Slim Shady, he said: “Shady still exists.
“But I don’t think the subjects on this record call for, you know, bring the chainsaws and axes out and murder everyone on this record. There was so much stuff like that off the last record that I felt like I was starting to run it into the ground. I think consciously I went in a different direction with this record.”
In a song titled Criminal on his second studio album, The Marshall Mathers LP, Eminem’s lyrics include: “My words are like a dagger with a jagged edge/ That’ll stab you in the head, whether you’re a fag or lez/ Or the homosex, hermaph or a trans-a-vest/Pants or dress? Hate fags? The answer’s yes”.
In December, he reportedly agreed not to perform any anti-gay songs in order to appear at this year’s Wireless Festival.
