Bradford man denies attacking lesbian
A man accused of raping a lesbian woman many years his senior told a jury at Bradford Crown Court yesterday that he had “No interest” in the defendant.
Jonathan Ingham, 20, claimed that he met the woman in a local pub and returned to her home for a drink, but that no sex between them took place.
However, the prosecution alleged that Mr Ingham walked the woman home under the false pretence of seeing her pet cat, before proceeding to hold her down and rape her. The woman managed to kick him away and Mr Ingham allegedly fled the scene after telling her to keep the incident quiet.
Mr Ingham, who confessed to having alcohol problems, denied having had any sexual conversation with the woman in the pub thus any attempt to mislead her. He replied in the negative when cross-examined by Prosecutor Robert Elias, who asked him if he had thought he was “in with a chance of a sexual encounter with her”.
Mr Ingham also refuted any idea that he saw a lesbian woman as “a challenge” or that he was flattered an woman “old enough to be his mother” had taken a shine to him. He replied that he “wasn’t interested”.
The accused is said to have cerebral palsy and told the jury the right side of his body was impaired. He conceded however, that this does not impair his ability to perform sexually.
