Lindsay Lohan begins jail sentence
Lindsay Lohan began a prison term in Lynwood, California, today for violating the terms of a 2007 probation for a drink-driving offence.
The bisexual actress was sentenced to 90 days in the Century Regional Detention Facility, although reports say she could be freed in just 14 days due to overcrowding and good behaviour.
Some tabloid reports suggested that lesbian inmates of the jail are particularly keen to meet the star, who is expected to be housed in a separate wing where she will spend 23 hours a day in her cell.
The Sun reported that as she arrived at the prison, she was met by the “screams of lesbian gangs desperate to get a piece of her”.
She appeared to be in tears as she entered the facility, but smiled at inmates who shouted: “We love you!”
She was reportedly subjected to a strip search and a cavity search upon entry.
Lohan, 24, has rarely been out of the news in the last few years for her turbulent relationship with ex-girlfriend Samantha Ronson, the DJ and sister of Mark Ronson.
The actress has reportedly struggled with addictions to alcohol and prescription drugs. She is expected to be allowed some medication in jail but must complete 90 days in rehabilitation once released.
She has spent time at the prison before, serving just 84 minutes of a sentence for a drink driving offence in 2007.
