Swedish politician stripped of duties over alleged homophobic comments
A Swedish politician is to be stripped of his role as a lay judge following homophobic comments allegedly made by him on a political opponent’s blog post about gay adoption.
The Moderate Party’s Karl-Otto Hultström will lose his role after the next local elections because of the comments made on Gothenburg Left Party politician Jöran Fagerlund’s blog.
Posted under aliases which are claimed to link back to Mr Hultström were 300 comments including: “They [homosexuals] can do what they like with each other but it’s going too far when they push themselves on small children! And the gays shouldn’t be allowed to adopt!!”
The Local, an English language Swedish news website reports that Jimmy Baker, chairman of the Moderate Party’s Botyrka branch, told Sveriges Radio: “He has admitted to writing some of these comments and is incredibly disappointed, mostly with himself, and has expressed regret.”
“It’s not acceptable for him to express himself in this way,” Mr Baker added.
