Swedish politician stripped of duties over alleged homophobic comments
A Swedish politician is to be stripped of his role as a lay judge following homophobic comments allegedly made by him on a political opponent’s blog post about gay adoption.
The Moderate Party’s Karl-Otto Hultstrƶm will lose his role after the next local elections because of the comments made on Gothenburg Left Party politician Jƶran Fagerlund’s blog.
Posted under aliases which are claimed to link back to Mr Hultstrƶm were 300 comments including: āThey [homosexuals] can do what they like with each other but itās going too far when they push themselves on small children! And the gays shouldnāt be allowed to adopt!!ā
The Local, an English language Swedish news website reports that Jimmy Baker, chairman of the Moderate Partyās Botyrka branch, told Sveriges Radio: “He has admitted to writing some of these comments and is incredibly disappointed, mostly with himself, and has expressed regret.”
āItās not acceptable for him to express himself in this way,” Mr Baker added.
