‘Trans’ victim ‘pushed’ to death under Kings Cross tube train
A woman was arrested on suspicion of murder yesterday evening after a person was allegedly pushed under a tube train at London Kings Cross Station.
The victim, said by police to be a 63-year-old man from central London, is understood to have been wearing women’s clothes.
It is not yet clear whether the victim was a trans woman but witnesses described seeing two women sharing a joke before one was “pushed” onto the tracks in front of an incoming train at 6.30pm.
Horrified passengers watched from the packed platform as the victim was dragged under the Piccadilly line train.
A student who gave her name as Emma said she had been standing next to the victim. She told the Evening Standard: “A whole carriage passed before the train stopped. As the woman went down, the two bags I had were dragged with her under the train.”
She said the couple, who seemed to know each other, appeared to have been “pushing and pulling as a joke” moments before the train pulled in.
The victim has not been named.
A 34-year-old woman from Cricklewood was arrested last night and is being held in custody on suspicion of murder. Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident.
Detective Superintendent Ashley Croft, British Transport Police’s senior investigating officer, said: “Early indications from witnesses are that the victim and the suspect knew each other.
“Following the incident a man on the platform detained the woman by restraining her until police arrived.
“The woman remains in custody and is being held on suspicion of murder.
“We are also in the process of viewing CCTV from the station and interviewing several witnesses who came forward last night.
“It’s really important that we build the clearest possible picture of what took place on the platform and I ask anyone who may have seen the incident to contact us.”
