Shot pro-gay congresswoman begins speaking again
Gabrielle Giffords, the Arizona congresswoman shot in the head last month, has begun speaking again.
The pro-gay politician was seriously injured when a gunman opened fire on a meeting in a shopping mall.
Six people, including her aide, were killed, while 14 people were injured.
Ms Giffords was shot through the forehead but her doctors say she has been making a remarkable recovery.
Her press secretary CJ Karamargi told the Houston Chronicle: “[She’s talking] more and more every day. She is improving in all areas.”
The 40-year-old is undergoing intensive rehabilitation therapy.
After she was shot, gay rights groups said her support had “never faltered”, even when she was criticised for it.
Jared Loughner, 22, has been charged with the shootings.
According to reports, handwritten notes found in his home said “I planned ahead,” “My assassination” and “Giffords”.
