Bisexual pop star Lady Gaga won three Grammy awards last night after arriving at the ceremony inside an egg carried in by six topless models.

The gay rights advocate won best pop vocal album for The Fame Monster. While accepting the award she paid tribute to Whitney Houston saying: “So, Whitney, I imagined you were singing born this way when I wrote it.”

She also won best short-form video and best female pop vocal performance for her single Bad Romance.

The star arrived at the awards in predictable style inside an egg, carried in by six topless models. She performed her new single, ‘Born This Way’, hailed as “the new gay anthem” by Sir Elton John.

Lyrics include: “No matter gay, straight, or bi/ Lesbian, transgendered life/ I’m on the right track, baby” and “Don’t be a drag, just be a queen.”

The single is the first on a new album of the same name.

Gaga told Vogue: “I wrote [Born This Way] in ten f**king minutes.

“And it is a completely magical message song. And after I wrote it, the gates just opened, and the songs kept coming. It was like an immaculate conception.”

Gay blogger Perez Hilton told MTV.com: It is a very gay song — unapologetically, gay-in-your-face gay — but it’s also a universal song that can relate to everyone.

“To all of us outsiders, to all of us freaks, to all of us who feel different. And the music is undeniable. It sounds like a smash. It is a smash. It is one of the best songs of Gaga’s career.”
