Sacked Christian doctor says he may sue Home Office
A Christian doctor sacked as a drugs advisor by the government says he may sue if the Home Office does not apologise to him.
Dr Hans-Christian Raabe was fired from the advisory panel because he failed to mention controversial past work in interviews, the Home Office said earlier this month.
He had co-authored documents for a Christian health organisation which called homosexuality “destructive” and said it was associated with disease and drug use.
Another paper said that it was of “grave concern that there is a disproportionately greater number of homosexuals among paedophiles and an overlap between the gay movement and the movement to make paedophilia acceptable”.
According to the Independent, Dr Raabe is accusing the Home Office of hypocrisy, pointing out that a 1998 report by the department states: “Bradford et al (1988) suggested reasonably that approximately 20 to 33 per cent of child sexual abuse is homosexual in nature.”
“This is quite hypocritical and very bizarre indeed,” he said. “I am being sacked by the Home Office for stating what a Home Office document says.”
The Manchester GP, who says he has never discriminated against gay people, is demanding an apology from the department and may take legal action if this is not forthcoming.
He said: “The real issue is that there was a campaign to get rid of me. I suspect it’s a group of people that are for a more liberal drug policy and perhaps want to legalise drugs.”
Campaigners for tougher drug laws have sided with Dr Raabe, calling for an end to the “witchhunt” against him.
