Brighton Pride seeks volunteers
Brighton Pride is looking for organisations to help man its tents.
The festival, which is to charge entry this year, needs volunteers to run the Dance Tent, Women’s Performance Tent, BME Tent and Bears Tent.
Also needed are companies to run the bars at the event after Brighton Pride terminated its contract with Aeon Events last year.
In addition, the festival needs help to programme its Community Stage, which was introduced in 2010.
Russell Allen, the chairman of Pride, said: “This is an exciting year in the history of Pride in Brighton & Hove, over the past few months we have faced some tough challenges but with the support of Brighton & Hove City Council and all our partners the future looks bright.
“We are delighted that this summer events will offer plenty of opportunities for community groups and businesses to get involved in this landmark year.
“Working with our partners we are developing the foundations for years to come and our focus remains on delivering a safe and enjoyable event which enables us to maximise funds raised for the local LGBT voluntary sector.”
Last month, festival organisers said they had to make significant changes after complaints about safety and litter at last year’s event.
Spokeswoman Judith Manson said she could not yet say how much entry would be, as festival organisers are still consulting with East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service about capacity.
But she said the price would depend on this figure and the cost of erecting barriers and paying for security.
