Gay sauna blaze ‘not suspicious’
A fire at gay sauna in Shoreditch, east London, is not being treated as suspicious, police say.
The blaze, at Chariots on Fairchild Street, started at around 6am Sunday morning.
Fire crews arrived after around 150 men fled the burning building. The blaze was under control by 7.40am.
Half of the sauna’s ground floor was destroyed in the fire. No one was injured.
A Fire Brigade investigation into the cause of the incident is ongoing, although police are not treating it as suspicious.
A Fire Brigade spokesman said it was not clear what happened to the sauna’s customers, who were presumably in a state of undress.
