New website launched to further promote gay marriage equality in Australia
A newly launched Australian website, My Marriage Story, is allowing LGBTI Australians to share stories and ideas about the promotion of marriage equality.
This comes after the Australian Lower House of Parliament passed a motion last year calling for MPs to canvass their constituents on the subject of same-sex marriage.
Speaking to Matt Akersten of samesame.com, Alex Greenwich of the Australian Marriage Equality group said: “It’s about putting a face to the huge support for equality from across Australia. It will be a way for all the groups campaigning for marriage equality to reach out to as many Australians as possible and combine our voices in calling for equality.”
The campaign is being supported by The New South Wales Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby, The Tasmanian Gay and Lesbian Rights Group and The Victorian Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby, among others.
Daniel Scaysbrook of the NSW Lobby told SameSame: “Marriage equality is an issue that affects the lives of many LGBTI people, and their friends and families. By telling these stories we hope to end the legislative discrimination against all people on the basis of their sex, sexuality and gender identity.”
Matt Akersten wrote: “To show how much marriage equality matters, stories are being sought from every part of Australia. Stories from all walks of life, parents and grandparents, city and country. Supporters will be encouraged to ask family members, friends and work colleagues to share their stories.”
