Policeman and former Mr Gay UK denies sex offence charges as trial continues
A police constable who won the Mr Gay UK title in 2006 was in court yesterday accused of raping a man in a Leeds hotel.
PC Mark Carter, 28, allegedly dragged the man into his hotel room by the hair, punched him in the face and raped him twice.
The alleged incidents are supposed to have taken place at PC Carter’s work’s Christmas party in December 2009.
Jurors heard that he was out with a “large number” of his West Yorkshire Police colleagues. He also allegedly made indecent advances on two waiters and a barman earlier in the same evening.
After a group meal, PC Carter was captured on CCTV leaving a bar with another man who he was hugging and kissing.
Prosecutor Sarah Wright said the men retired to PC Carter’s hotel room in Leeds, where “[the man] pulled away but the defendant punched him” before allegedly raping him.
The court heard that the man eventually managed to escape and get help.
PC Carter of Birkenshaw, West Yorkshire, denies two rape and three sexual assault charges. The trial, which began last December, continues.
