Graham Norton and Alan Carr win new £4m chatshow deals
Graham Norton and Alan Carr have both won new £4 million deals to continue their chatshows.
The two-year deals mean both entertainers will be primetime fixtures until at least 2014.
Carr, whose bosses at Channel 4 are said to be impressed with his show Chatty Man, has agreed to present another four series of the programme.
An insider told the Sun: “We took a risk and it’s paid off. People love coming on his show and we get some top-flight guests.”
Norton is reportedly finishing negotiations on a new contract which will see him record another 34 episodes of his BBC 1 show, as well as presenting the Baftas and the Eurovision Song Contest.
According to the newspaper, the star’s current contract is not due to end for another six months but a source claimed he was keen to finalise a new deal before the BBC suffers further cuts.
Yesterday, Doctor Who and Torchwood writer Russell T Davies launched an outspoken attack on the coalition government over spending cuts to the corportation.
The gay screenwriter, who is one of the BBC’s most senior writers, called David Cameron and Nick Clegg “savage and evil people” and claimed the Conservative Party was “buffoonish” but “lethal as a laser”.
