Video: Lady Gaga flash mob held at Bachmann family clinic
When the husband of presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann described gays as being in need of discipline, he may not have expected it to be meted out in the car park of his clinic in Minnesota.
But following Bachmann’s comments, in which he referred to the community as “barbarians”, a flash mob of over 100 dancers descended on the driveway of the Bachmann & Associates clinic in full costume.
A local actor posing as Marcus Bachmann was “baptised” with glitter after pretending to whip dancers during their choreographed routine, set to Lady Gaga’s Born This Way.
Event organiser Nick Espinosa told Columbus Go Home: “Let’s be clear: Marcus Bachmann is the practitioner of an unhealthy, unscientific and dangerous practice.
“The American people have a right to know: does the Bachmann family profit from bogus ‘gay reparative therapy’ or not. The medical evidence against the practice aside, the Bachmann’s subversive marginalization of the LGBT community is despicable.”
In July, protesters threw glitter in the lobby of the clinic after they were told Bachmann was not available for the discipline they requested.
Bachmann, a Christian counselling therapist, has denied practising ‘reparative therapy’, which aims to turn gays straight, but several witnesses say the clinic tried to ‘cure’ them.
Mr Bachmann has been widely mocked on gay blogs and websites for having a “gay voice”.
At the end of the routine, the dancers ask collectively: “Hey Marcus, what’s in your closet?”
Mrs Bachmann was ‘glittered’ by gay rights campaigners recently for her opposition to gay marriage. She has signed a controversial pledge that opposes gay marriage and says that black children were more likely to grow up in stable families in slavery than they are in today’s America.
The politician has a long track record of anti-gay remarks, including claiming that gay people suffer “sexual dysfunction” and “personal enslavement”.
She has also claimed that gays are “specifically targeting our children”.
