Rickshaw driver not guilty of raping lesbian
A London rickshaw driver has been cleared of raping a lesbian doctor.
Murat Durmus, 23, of Walthamstow, said the pair had consensual sex after he drove her home from a night out on February 5th.
Jurors at the Old Bailey unanimously found him not guilty, Press Association reports.
The court was told that he had picked the woman and a male friend up after they had been drinking in bars in Soho following a late shift at work.
The woman, in her twenties, claimed that Mr Durmus attacked her after dropping her friend off.
The jury heard she had drank eight double Barcardis and a shot and could not clearly remember what happened.
She gave police a description of Mr Durmus and he was arrested two weeks later. His DNA was matched to evidence.
The woman’s lawyer, Lisa Matthews, said she was not out to her family but had been forced to reveal her sexuality when making the allegation.
