LGBT foster parents condemned for ‘dressing boy in girl’s clothes’
A couple in Australia have been condemned for allegedly dressing their six-year-old foster son in girl’s clothes and putting a photo on Facebook.
The foster parents have been referred to as a lesbian couple, although reports say that one is undergoing sex reassignment and living as a man.
The story was reported by the Australian Daily Telegraph, which said that the boy and his 12-year-old sister had now been removed from the couple’s care.
Few details have emerged in the case, which was revealed in a Supreme Court judgment last month.
The circumstances of why the child was dressed in girl’s clothes are not clear, although the newspaper called the image “humiliating”.
The children were originally placed with the couple by magistrate Barbara Holborow, who has now called for an enquiry.
Families minister Pru Goward has demanded a explanation from fostering service Barnardo’s.
She said: “I am seeking advice from Barnardos to confirm that care arrangements were appropriate and the wellbeing of the children was paramount,”
Both children had suffered severe physical and mental abuse at the hands of their birth parents.
Their mother failed to win custody of the boy through the Supreme Court and the children’s current foster parents are said to be planning to adopt them.
