US men plead guilty to gay sex charges on Caribbean cruise
Two men from California have pleaded guilty to charges of breaking Dominica’s anti-gay laws after being spotted having sex on a gay cruise ship.
AP reports that the men, who were on a Caribbean gay cruise when they were spotted having sex on the ship by someone on the island of Dominica, were fined $900.
41-year-old John Robert Hart and 43-year-old Dennis Jay Mayer of Palm Springs, California were left by the Atlantis Events-chartered Celebrity Summit ship yesterday, which sailed on to St Barts.
The man are expected to be released today.
Atlantis Events’ president had told AP he expected only minor misdemeanor charges for the men: “Many countries and municipalities that gay men visit and live in have antiquated laws on their books.
“These statutes don’t pose a concern to us in planning a tourist visit.”
He added: “The guests actions were unfortunate but minor in this case and have no bearing on our overall guest experience.”
The 16-deck Royal Caribbean ship, the largest passenger ship ever built, had also been chartered by Atlantis Events on a sailing billed as the world’s largest gay cruise.
Steven Krumholz, 51, from California, was found with more than 142 ecstasy pills, methamphetamine, a small amount of ketamine, and about $51,000 (£31,000) in cash.
In February, a man was feared dead after falling from the deck of another Atlantis Events cruise on the Allure of the Seas.
