New play about gay boxer to open at Albany Theatre
Shadow Boxing, a new high-impact, one-man show about a boxer facing his toughest opponent yet – his sexuality – is set to open at the Albany Theatre in Deptford, south-east London, having won five 5-star reviews at the Edinburgh Fringe.
Jonny Collis-Scurl plays Flynn, the son of a failed boxer. Flynn is determined not to end up like his father, and through sheer dedication, becomes a successful fighter. His gruelling training regime, however, may well be method of avoiding issues he’d rather not face up to. As he draws closer to a title fight, his personal crisis gains momentum and culminates in a shattering conclusion.
Performed as a fast-paced, intense monologue, Flynn takes the audience through a highly emotional, 50-minute journey.
Following a well-received run at Edinburgh in 2010, the play ran for three successful weeks at the renowned Brits Off Broadway Festival in New York City.
