An unauthorised biography of singer Jessie J claims she is a lesbian but was told bisexuality would be a more appealing public identity for her to take on.

Chloe Govan’s ‘Jessie J: Who’s Laughing Now’ says the musician has identified privately as gay since the age of 17, but music executives thought bisexuality was more appealing to the public.

A representative for the artist told PinkNews.co.uk there would be no comment on the claims this morning.

Ms Govan writes: “Jessie might have been with boys in the past – but she is 100 per cent gay. Jessie was openly lesbian and didn’t hide it.

“She was advised not to come out, though. Certain people thought being bi was trendy, exotic and a fashion statement. It would increase her allure.”

In addition to the claims that bisexuality was more fashionable, Ms Govan says fears of homophobia played a part in the decision, which was said to have “incensed” the star.

She writes: “There are so many homophobes out and there were fears of a career-damaging backlash.”

Ms Govan’s entry on her literary agent’s website says she also penned “the first major biography on pop sensation Katy Perry”, which includes an interview with the girl it claims inspired Perry’s hit song ‘I Kissed A Girl’.

It adds: “Her trademark is speed, delivering copy fast without compromising on quality or detail, and continuing to bring you the exclusives the newspapers never printed.”
